This is where I live and work

Time I tell something about the state of affairs in my hometown and my life. It's October again which means I will be getting some holidays like Gandhi Jayanti, Durga Puja, etc. I am not too thrilled though because I ain't getting any long break from my boring schedule of attending my office. The fact is that I am trying very hard to remain focussed this time.

Imphal is in such a mess. The roads are terrible as everything is broken, supposedly for reconstruction! Then, there is so much corruption in every walk of life. The irony is that even as the Govt. seems to be recruiting only police forces, and even if our state resembles a police state, the crimes remain unabated and laymen continues to suffer from harassment by both security forces and the outlaws. The public continues to act like zombies who have no trust in either govt. or law enforcer whom they see as hands in gloves with the outlaws. There is no trust and there is no hope and I am baffled by the scepticism that affects and paralyse each individual. Extortion is universally acceptable in our society. Be it a group of students blocking highways to collect money or some organizations using intimidation for some cause, be it some members collecting donations, be it outlaws using threats and intimidation in the form of phone calls, letters, grenades, gunshots and most strange of all is the audacity of law enforcers extorting money in the form of ambiguous taxes etc. My state is surely a failed state and I am a part of this failed entity. I am ashamed and guilty as everyone for not being brave enough to fight and overcome this state of affairs. This is where I live and work.
